Show Redmen Lose State Meet Chances In Playoff Contests The Cedar High School Track and Field team after looming strong throughout the current season and being at least a mild favorite to repeat as state champions, cham-pions, failed to live up to expectations expec-tations in the annual meet Saturday. Sat-urday. The Redmen had walked off with the Region Eight championship champion-ship a week earlier, but at the same time, failed to place as many participants in the state meet as had been expected. The Redmen scored 69 points in the region meet, and placed six men in the state meet, by virtue of first, second or third place wins in the region meet. In the state meet at the University Uni-versity of Utah Stadium, the Red-men Red-men gained only a total of 13 points, coming on four third places plac-es and a fifth place. Mike Webster came up with two thirds in the high and low hurdles; Neldon Bryant placed third in the 100 yard dash, and Robert Corry took third In the 880 yard run, with Vernile Prince adding a point on a fifth in the 440 yard dash. The state championship was won this yar by Richfield High School. |
