Moyle LADIES CLUB The last meeting of 1961 for .the Escalante Valley Women's Club was held at the home of Mrs. Miriam McGary, president for 1961, with Secretary Melba Clark as co-hostess. A history of Ladies' Club events for the past year was read by Mrs. Dorothy Gardner, after which games were enjoyed with prizes being won by Marie Phelps, Barbara Laub, Dian Cox and Georgia Moyle. Door prize was won by Maud Moyle. The ladies exchanged gifts and enjoyed en-joyed refreshments In the form of old fashioned plum pudding nTiu livt puiicil. COUNCIL MEETING Council meeting for the month of January was held on Wednesday, Wednes-day, Jan. 3, with newly elected president Bryner Wood conducting. conduct-ing. Pat Moyle, secretary for 1961 was present to handle responsibilities until ?. new secretary sec-retary is available. Reports were given as follows: fol-lows: John McGary on building control fund, Miriam McGary community calendar; Art Piper and John McGary, building committee, com-mittee, on finishing and repair work, and Bryner Wood on wild life activities. Alfred Force, television; tele-vision; Arthur Piper, 4-H; Warren War-ren Piatt, electric association; Edith Force, on telephone and Modena activities; Alene Smith, Y-Z Trail; Boyd Christensen, Newcastle activities. DANCING The merry music of Herb Knells orchestra sounded again In the Escalante Valley on Saturday, Sa-turday, Jan. 6, as friends and neighbors from Newcastle, Modena, Mo-dena, Cedar City and the Valley met for another good time. The dance, sponsored by the Lions Club, gave a special assignment to president Warren Piatt. Russell Rus-sell Christensen, Tony Alberto, Joe DelVecchio and John McGary, Mc-Gary, who spent most of their time preparing hamburgers and selling pop, while Jack Moyle kept tickets. BOARD MEETING The monthly board meeting of the Lions CTub was held Jan. 8 with the following In attendance for planning of coming events: Warren Piatt, Jack Moyle, John McGary,- Bryner Wood, Neil Nellson, Tony Alberto, Bob Hyde, Russell Christensen and Darwin Hulet. Two main coming events for January, the rr.ld-wlnter Lions Banquet at Salt Lake City on Jan. 22, and Founders and Re-dedication Re-dedication Night, Saturday, Jan. 27, which will also be ladles night were dlacussed and plan-' ned- ' Y-Z TRAIL A large, beautiful sign, sponsored spon-sored by the people of Escalante Valley, is now completed and ready to be installed. This sign, which has taken months of time and effort, was drawn and painted paint-ed by Mrs. Edith Hunt of Escalante Es-calante Valley and Mrs. Madge Hunt of Enterprise. HERE AND THERZ Mr. and Mis. Alfred Force of Modena spent Christmas with their daughter Eleanor and her family, the Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ro-bert Hartmans of Salt Lake City. Eleanor's three children were present with their families, also Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dotson of Fanaca, ixev., with their two sons and families. Mrs. Force and Mrs. Dotson are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Dee Burgess and children spent the Christmas holidays In the Los Angeles vicln-ity, vicln-ity, at Inglewood with Mrs. Burgess's Bur-gess's mother, Mrs. Kinzel, and" at Manhattan Beach with a sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rich-ard Cooper and family. Eldon and Bobby Bracken of Bakersfield and Alma Bracken of St. George spent the holidays with the Neal Brackens. Mrs. Rosilla Hills spent the Christmas holidays at Cedar City with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Hills. Mr. and Mrs. John Smith motored mot-ored to Glen Canyon where they spent the New Year's holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moyle, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Holt and 3irls and Albert Holt returned home Wednesday Wed-nesday from an extended trip to Palo Alto and San Francisco by way of Bakersfield and the coast highway, returning by way of Sacramento and Donner Pass. The Holts and Moyles visited with their sister and brother-in-law, Mr. an Mrs. Paris Robinson Robin-son of Palo Alto. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hunt, Lucile, Dale and Allen spent Christmas holidays at Mesa, Arizona with their son and brother Russell and family. Richard met the family at Mesa. They Journeyed to Garden Grove where Richard Is teaching school. On their return re-turn they visited with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Addis of Las Vegas. The Hunts returned home for New Year's, where their daughter daugh-ter Evaline and son Stanley and six children of Salt Lake City with them. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hunt announced an-nounced Tuesday the birth of a new granddaughter, born to Mary and Stanley, since they were home on the New Year. Friends of the valley give sin-vere sin-vere best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Don Randall and family for the recovery of their little son, who was badly hurt Monday In a po-, po-, tato sorter. |
