Show Postal Laws Restrict Mailing Objectionable Matter The variety of Items that people peo-ple send or try to send through the malls Is amazing. From form notices and trinkets of little consequence to social and business transactions of In-calculable In-calculable value, almost everything every-thing makes grist for the biggest big-gest business on earth. But not all that Is deposited is welcome. Certain of letters and packages pack-ages are in violation of law. Violations Vio-lations can bring penalties of up to $5,000 in fines and five years Imprisonment, or both. One of the better known non mailable Items is chain letters. Others are I lottery advertising anc lottery ' tickets, sweepstakes tickets, ob-scene ob-scene matter, articles relating to birth prevention, liquor, firearms, exvplosives, matches, caustic 1 acids, treasonable statements, poisons and poisonous reptiles. In general, any articles, compositions, com-positions, or materials which may kill or injure another, or Injure the malls or other prop-! erty are non-mallable. Primary j purpose of the law Is to protect I the malls against damage, to protect those who handle them , against personal harm, and to protect the public against fraud. Some Items ordinarily prohibited prohibit-ed may be sent through the mails if they conform to special regulations as to preparation and packaging and if they are not outwardly dangerous, or if their own force dangerous or Injurious Injur-ious to life, health or property.
