Show Parowan Gains Class B Semi-Finals 1 Defeating Marysvale and Richfield i Coach John Wood's Parowan High School basketball team won its first two gamps in the State Class B tournament now under way In Provo and went into the semi-finals of the championship cham-pionship bracket and will play the winner of the Cedar City Uintah game on Friday. The Hams took a close hard-fought hard-fought game rom the Marysvale day, and came from behind a 32-30 halftime score to win from a fine Richfield team 67 to 53 in the high scoring game of the tourney, which got under way at a game which got under way at 12:20 today, Thursday. The Rams were ahead 17 to 15 at the end of the initial quarter, dropped behind Richfield 32 to 30 at the halftime rest. They came back to outscore the Sevier County Bulldogs 51 to 50 on Wednes-team Wednes-team 15 to 4 and take a 45 to' 36 lead as the third quarter end-1 ed. Coach Woods boys really got hot in the fourth quarter with Richfield doing very well also. The Rams scored 22 points in the eight minute neriod to 17 for th Richfield outfit for the 67 to 53 point win. The Parowan scoring was led by Reed Thornton, who hung up a tournament scoring record up to this point, with a 26 point I production, getting 8 out of 9 tries from the foul line besides getting nine field goals. Burton who was a trifle cold in the first of the game, opened up and got 16 points for the Ram cause. Others Oth-ers who scored for Parowan were Rod Lister with 6, Dean Robinson Robin-son with with 6, Ken Simkins with 8 and Whitney with 5. In the game which was played before the Parowan game. Marysvale came back from yesterdays yes-terdays defeat to win from North Summit 45 to 42 and send that team out of the tournament. In the opening game of the evening session Wednesday the Parowan High School team eked out a one-point victory over the n..iu . . ...uijfuic uuiiuus i iu oyf uri a last minute shot by Don Burton, Bur-ton, after trailing much of the way through the game. Parowan took an early lead In the first quarter but Marysvale cut it down and went ahead 9-8 as the first quarter ended. The Bulldogs stretched this lead to 28 to 23 by halftime with the Marysvale crew out-hustling the local team. In the third quarter Coach Wood's team made a comeback to go ahead at the third quarter ret 41 to 39. In the last quarter the lead see-sawed back and forth with neither team getting far on lead. In the final minute with Marysvale ahead Eurton shut from the corner with the ball bouncing high off the rim before dropping through to give the Rams a one point lead which they maiaged to cling on to. Reed Thornton with IS points, led the. Ram scoring and incidentally inci-dentally was one of the hifrh scorers for the opening day. He was followed by Whitney with 13 and Burton with 12, Dean Robinson got 2, Eugene Robb got 1, Ken Simkins got 3 ,rri Pol Lister got 2 for the Rams. As usual us-ual Parowan didn't show up too for Marysvale. but outseorlng th 11 out of 20 tries to 18 out of 23 well at the foul line, getting only Bulldogs 20 to 16 from the field. |
