Show Mat Men Gain Second Place in State Meet Cedar City High School Wres-I Wres-I tllng team garnered second place honors in the State Class B meet held at Heber City Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28 and Mar. 1. The Redmen returned from the meet with three state champions, one second place title holder and three who finished third in their respective weights. I The State Class B title went to Uintah High School of Vernal. 'Defending state champion wns forced way down the scale this season and Millard High of Fill-, Fill-, more, placed third, giving the I Region 10 schools second and third places in the state-wide event. ' The three state champions for the Redmen were Jay Smith, 103 nounds. son of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Smith; Roy Urie, 112 pounds, son I of Mrs. Mary A. Urie, and George Manning, 120. son of Mr. and Mrs. George Manning. I Second place honors went to Dale Rider, son of Mi. and Mrs. Elbert Rider, in the unlimited division. Placing third in the state meet were Gary Anderson, 154; Ken MsKnight. 165. and Ron Prince. 175 pound class. Seven of the 11 men who qualified qual-ified for the state finals placed third or better in the meet. Of those seven five won their final matches with pins. They included includ-ed Urie, Manning, Anderson, Mc-Knight Mc-Knight and Prince. Decision victories vic-tories were won by Smith and Dale Rider was decisioned in the finals by Gene Ash of Pleasanti Grove to finish second. r Coach of the Cedar City Red-! men, Region 10 champions this year, is Hal Norton. |
