Show Iron County Men Run For District Governor Office i . j v DEE C. COWAN DON APPLECATE District Convention of the Utah District of Lions International will be staged in St. George on the week end of May 4 through 7 and two men from this area will be vying for important administrative admin-istrative positions. Opposing each other as candidates candi-dates for Governor of District 28-H will be Dee Cowan of Cedar City sponsored by the Cedar City Lions Club and Don Applegate, Parowan, sponsored by the Esca-lante Esca-lante Valley Lions Club. Both men have been active In the club which Is sponsoring them and both are past presidents presi-dents of their repective clubs and have held various other Important Im-portant positions. Applegate was a charter mem ber of the Escalante Valley Club and was Instrumental in its organization. or-ganization. He moved to Parowan Paro-wan wl-ve he became principal of the rmwan Elementary School, but has retained his membership mem-bership in the Escalante Valley Club and continued his participation. partici-pation. Cowan Just completed a term as president of the Cedar City Club and ho has held practically all of the other major positions of the organization serving as an officer and as chairman of a number of the club's important committees. District 23-II is one of four districts in the Utah Lions Or-ganlzation Or-ganlzation and is composed of 23 clubs in the southern portion of the state. Clubs are as far north as Mt. Pleasant on Highway 89, and cover the area south to the state line Including clubs at Ka-nab Ka-nab and Zt. George. Elections will be conducted at the State convention and results will be announced at the banquet ban-quet to be held Saturday, May 6. Winner of the clccMon will succeed suc-ceed Neal Jones of Monroe as director of the district. Large delegations of both clubs are expected to. attend the state confab to support their candidate for the position. Both clubs aro staging vigorous campaigns In behalf of the candidates. |
