Show Shakespearean Festival Scheduled By College College of Southern Utah in cooperation with the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce and other Cedar City civic and social organizations or-ganizations will present the first annual Utah Shakespearean Festival Fes-tival during the summer of 19G2, according to CSU drama director, Fred Adams. Three ma jor works will be producer1 pro-ducer1 for the three-week festival ac- dir. to Adams, "Midsummer "Midsum-mer Night Dream," "Merchant of Venice," and "Hamlet." Guest directors for the first season have not been announced and Mr. Adams will direc t one of the productions. Mr. Adams and a group of workers are preparing to engage In extensive costume designings and construction and set work during the coming summer sum-mer In addition to the plays, other oth-er concerts, lectures, art exhibits, dance concerts and guided tours through the nearby national parks and monuments are on schedule for anticipated visitors to the festival. Eventually the campus will he crowned with Shakespeare Park and a reconstruction of the Old Globe Theater of Shakespeare's day. Including an Elizabethan ale house and a large rose garden. gar-den. It is anticipated by Mr. Adams that the festival will be extended to a 40-day run with five major plays by the Bard of Avon witnin the next four to five seasons. Outline of the festival and the programming has been presented present-ed to the American National Theater The-ater Association and the American Ameri-can Educational Theater Association. Asso-ciation. The festival Is applying for a charter and is setting up a board of regents and a board of directors to give direction to the massive community-college effort. Student actors will be housed on campus and college credit will be allowed for all courses In acting, stagecraft and associated subjects In connection with reg-ular reg-ular summer session work. Mr. Adams Indicated that applications applica-tions for actors desiring to participate par-ticipate will be mailed to interested inter-ested persons. |
