Show I City Council Accepts Bids On Water System Extension Cedar City water system was the principal item of business confronting the Cedar City Council Coun-cil at its regular meeting Thursday, Thurs-day, April 19, according to Mayor May-or Arnold Anderson. Council accepted bids on water pipe which will be used to connect con-nect the two new one-million gallon storage tanks to the culinary cul-inary system, accepted a bid lo cold-tar the interiors of the two new units; heard a report from the State Health Department relative rel-ative to the condition of the water wa-ter system and its mineral content con-tent and approved a recommendation recommen-dation from the Cedar City Water Board to drill a second well at Quitchapah !n preparation to adding ad-ding it to the system, and discussed dis-cussed a proposed agreement with the Pair. ted Hills Country Club for pumping a second foot of water at the Enoch well that has been taken under option by the golf club for use at the site northeast of the city. Four bids were submitted for the supplying of 2,810 feet of six inch pipe to 1h used to connect the two new water tanks into the present culinary sysir m. Four alternates were made, however, only the first alternate bid was considered at the meeting. Low bidder on the pipe was Consolidated Western Pipe Co. of Provo with a hid of $1.72 per foot for a total of $1,881.80. Other bids included Smith Scott Co. of California nt $1.86 per foot with a total of $5,282.40; Southern pipe of California at $2.00 per foot and a total of $3,080.00. Armco Drainage bid on the other alternates al-ternates but did not bid on the first alternate, Mayor Anderson stated. Three bids were submitted, for the painting of the two new tanks. Low bidder was Miscomb Painting Co. of Salt Lake City at $13,992. Other bids were $23,-413 $23,-413 by D. E. Burgess Co. of San Francisco, Calif.; and $18,003 by Rust Proofing Company of Phoenix, Phoe-nix, Ariz. The report from the health department to the council was favorable to all waters presently present-ly being utilized In the system. It further Indicated that the mineral min-eral content, prior to entry into the chlorinating system, was below be-low maximums in mineral content. con-tent. Other matters of council action ac-tion included: An agreement to assist thp Cedar City Pony League with $150 for purchase of equipment. Authorized purchasing new rope and a flag for utilization at the municipal airport. Authorized purchasing new screens for the residence at the airport. Adopted a recommendation by the Planning Commission to allow for six foot sidewalk strips at the new hospital site at 300 East and -NX) South Streets. Accepted, with reservations.' proposal of the Kiwanis Club, for tlie planting of trees on Main Street. Planting boxes must not exceed 2'a ft. and arrangements for site must be approved, the council stipulated. Recommended that a street be left open east of Main Street behind businesses from the Forest For-est sheds to the Livestock Pavilion Pavil-ion and that the street be included in-cluded in the master street plan. Also recommended the extension ex-tension of Highland Drive from its present location north to adjoin ad-join property of the Painted Hills County Club with this addition to be placed on the master street plan. Made recommendation to the State Highway Department that efforts be made to determine the final location of Interstate Highway Route through Cedar City to facilitate better and improved im-proved planning. Authorized Leland Demille and Clemont Adams to attend road school at Moab on May 5. Mayor Anderson was also directed di-rected to call a meeting of all City employees to discuss city retirement plans which was put into force at the last session of the State Legislature. |
