Show ; UHIGEHT ROAD NEEDS - . Rapid development of the southwest section of Cedar Gty in the past few years, and expected additional development devel-opment in the near future, presents a traffic control and safety problem that requires prompt attention and action by rity officials. ... - .. The city administration has indicated .considerable attention and intended action on this problem. However, it is emphasized that immediate action, particularly on the planning phases of the problem, and prompt action on carrying out the plana are needed. The new South Elementary School in the area has been completed and put into operation, and new high school campus is planned for the same general area. This together with recent residential growth and the contemplated contem-plated growth because of the location of the schools, means that street planning for an overall traffic pattern and street and sidewalk improvements are Imperative. In recent months a porton of 600 South Street has been graded and the city administrators have indicated that additional improvements are planned. These plans j include opening of GOO South from 300 West to Miin Street, and widening 300 West from 600 to about TiOO South. Open-1 ing of the 600 South to Mln and widening 300 West, is! an important step, but this together with surfacing and other improvements, need prompt action and not just planning, plan-ning, because traffic is increasing each month. J Two north-south streets, 700 and 300 West, must tarry most of the traffic load from this expanding, area, and must also be properly improved. Nor will improving these completely solve the problem, since they feed traffic onto two east-west streets that are narrow and not properly do veloped. These streets, 400 South from Main to the west ide of the- city, and 200 South west from 300 West to 1500 West, need widening and proper improvement to avoid a serious traffic flow problem. . , Not only is there need for improving the streets, but a proper system of sidewalks should be developed. In some areas sidewalks are entirely inadequate, and in many places are non-existent, which is a serious problem, particularly par-ticularly in the vicinity of the elementary school, which forces children into the street and creates a serious traffic traf-fic hazard. It is hoped that immediate action will be taken on this matter, because of a necessity i. will take considerable consider-able time to complete the overall development program. For a number of years 400 South Street has presented present-ed a serious problem and has become progressively worse. The City Planning Commission has been urging improvement improve-ment on this street for about three year, and although the administration has expressed agreement on the need for a number of changes, nothing has really been done about iL It Is to be hoped that this situation is corrected soon, and that the problems that have developed since will receive re-ceive prompt attention.' ; .
