Show Operation Big Push to Get Underway ' Saturday in Extensive Cleanup Move The Parowan City beautifica-tion beautifica-tion comrnltte has made plans for the first of several "big push" operations to be carried out this spring in the city. First "big push" has been set for this Saturday, Sat-urday, according to Mrs. Mary Topham, co-chairman of that commltee and will feature three of the principal streets of the city. The streets to receive attention In Saturday's drive, are Main, Center and First North Streets, and residents of these streets are being urged to arm themselves with rakes, shovel, and baskets or boxes to load trash only the trucks, which will be furnished by Parowan City, to give these streets a good face lifting. It is hoped that these streets, the sidewalks ajolnlng them and the property abuting on them can all be cleaned up in this week end's big drive. The beautification committee continues its bouquet passing by calling citizens attention to the following: "Have you driven down 'King's Row" lately? Very attractive grounds around every home, bespeak much civic pride, And say, have you seen the display dis-play of golden daffodils at the Lorin Smith residence? it's worth the ride by to see them." The committee welcomes these good suggestions sent in by our school students, and state that more will follow each week. Marilyn Orton says: For about five years now, sometime during each spring the students in the Parowan Elementary School have been cleaning up their school grounds. They all participate in this project. These school grounds look very nice. With a nice clean school to go to, It makes the kids proud of their school and they want to go to school We, the citizens of Parowan ought to pitch in and clean up the whole town so it will look as good or better than the school the children go to. We ought to clean our yards and help our neighbors clean theirs too. We need to fill in all of the chuck holes in the roads to make them safer. If the Elementary students con do it, we can to. Jolene Stubbs says: I think we could get some 50-gallon barrels bar-rels to put along the streets and label them in large letters: "trash." I think that whenever we see trash on our lawns and sidewalks we could pick it up and carry is to the nearest trash can and remind others to do so. I also think that whenever we are out on the highways in cars, we should carry a paper bag for us to put our trash in, and when we come to a trash can we should empty it so we can use it again. I think that we could tear down all the old barns that are not being used and the ones that are too good to be torn down, paint them. I also think we can help beautify our city by cleaning up our own lots. Seven ways of keeping Parowan Paro-wan beautiful: A. Not being litter bugs. B. Keeping our yards clean C. Keeping the streets in good condition. D. Keeping all lawns cut. E. Keeping all barns, homes and corrals in good condition. F. Keeping signs in good condition. con-dition. G. By keeping ourselves clean, neat and on good behavior. Compiled by 6th Grade Class |
