Show LIVING IN THE ESCALANTG VALLEY LIONS WIN DISTRICT CONTEST The meeting of the Valley Gub May 2 was the occasion of considerable enthusiasm when Lion Don Applegate announced the club had won the district contest for visitations. There were 25 clubs In this district participating par-ticipating in the contest. During the month of April members of the club visited the other clubs traveling almost 19,-000 19,-000 man miles. The competition ran high and it gave the club members great pleasure to win the contest President Bryner Wood reported the Lions have also installed highway approach signs at the Iron County line near Newcastle and Modena. MODENA BPW CLUB ELECTS Mrs. Edith-Force, former Southern South-ern District Director of the Nevada Neva-da Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, and Mrs. Kathleen Hyde, former Southern District corresponding secretary, traveled to Winnemuo-ca Winnemuo-ca last week to attend the state convention. While there, Mrs. Force was appointed secretary to the state legislation chairman, Mrs. Carol Getker, health and safety chairman of her local club at Caliente, the southern district dis-trict and the state. CAMPFIRE MEETING By Mickie Applegate On May 7 the meeting of the Campfire Girls was conducted by president Judy Del Vecchlo, and the girls spent the time working work-ing toward their ranks with Mrs. Delia Del Vecchlo, assisting in the work. FINAL PTA MEETING . The last meeting of the Parent-Teachers Association was held May 8 with President Doris Pederson in charge. Following committee reports on work accomplished ac-complished during the year, Mrs. Pederson made the presentation of the president's pin to the new president of the organization, Marlon Woolsey, and new teachers teach-ers in the Valley school, George Jolley, principal; Led a Jolley and Stanley Holt, were introduced. introduc-ed. A new school committee was appointed composed of Juanlta Butler, chairman; Marilyn Holt, Mont Porenson, Betty Bracken and Marlon Woolsey. Bryner Wood gave special thanks to Don Applegate who will leave the valley to become elementary principal in Paro-wan, Paro-wan, for his outstanding work in the past six years, not only as a teacher but as a civic leader. He pointed out that the school and community had progressed under un-der the leadership of Mr. Apple-gate, Apple-gate, and voiced the sentiment of the people of the Valley that they were reluctant to see him move, but wish his success In his new position. LADIES' CLUB SMORGASBORD A smorgasbord will be held at the Recreation Hall Saturday, May 16 at 8 p. m., for the adults of the Valley. The dinner will be $1.50 per person. Funds raised will be used for the purchase of kitchen equipment. A social hour will follow the dinner. CAMPFIRE GIRLS Tne Can. pf Ire Girls Ceremonial was held April 30, at which time leaders Delia Del Vecchlo and rhyllls Wood presented each girl with a strand of honor beads of achievement Three Trail Seekers, Evalee Applegate, Lanita Jolley and Judy Crum, received their rank charms. Four Wood Carvers, Dianne Wood, Mickie Applegate, Gloria Jolley and Carol Robinson, received their rank rings. Games and refreshments completed com-pleted the evening. ESCALANTE LIONS ENTERTAIN WIVES The Valley Lions entertained their wives Saturday night with a dinner at Mrs. Wah's Chinese Restaurant at Castleton, Nev About 32 couples made the trip. Special guests for the evening were Regional Director of Boy Scouts Joe Barney, and District Scout Commissioner Paul Warby. Mr. Warby presented special awards for outstanding work. A I Certificate of Appreciation was presented Cubmaster Bryner Wood and Scoutmaster Joe Del, Veccihio, Den Mothers Phyllis Wood and Francis Piper. Scout Commiteemen Neils Neilson pre- sented Den Mother Francis Piper a medal of appreciation for three years of outstanding work. This was donated by the Escalante Valley Lions. Climaxing the evening Mr. Barney showed a film entitled "Memories." |
