Show City Council Approves Pipe Line Contracts, Prepares Bid Call on Sewer, Appoints Summer Recreation Personnel Bids In the total amount of $9100 for materials and construction construc-tion of a new underground culinary culin-ary water line jn Cedar Canyon were approved at the meeting of the City Council Thursday, May 7. Contract for laying the under-j ground culinary system was awarded Lambeth Brothers of Cedar City and purchase of 1800 feet of pipe to be used in the project was awarded Roscoe-Moss Roscoe-Moss Company of Los Angeles, Calif. Construction contract was for $5,800 and the pipe contract was let for $2.00 a foot for an 1800 foot line, or a total of $3600. Other bidders on the laying contract Including the following: ) Chet Parry, $6811; Floyd Atkins: Plumbing, $6822 and Joseph $15,369.50. All are from Cedar, City. Other bids for supplying the; pipe Included the following:! Smith-Scott Company, $2.11 perj foot; Armco Drainage, $2.13 peri foot and the Structural Steel and Forge Co., $2.16 per foot. City Council also approved personnel to work with the City Recreation program for the summer sum-mer months, based on recommendations recom-mendations i. ade by the recreation recrea-tion -committee, Mayor Arnold Anderson said. j Named as director of the pro-) gram for the year was Bruce Os-1 borne. Osborne Is currently head of the athletic department at College of Southern Utah. Others named for the summer season Included Wallace Os-j borne as head of the Cedar City Municipal swimming pool. Hf.ns L. Chamberlain was named asi assistant manager of the swlm- ming pool, Roger Higbee wasj named to help with activities atj the pool and Roslyn Leigh wlllj serve as cashier. Named as assistants to the recreation rec-reation program to work with Bruce Osborne were Jerold Slack and Sam Chamberlain. No appointments for the women's wo-men's recreation program were made at the council meeting. The recreation committee, the Mayor stated, has recommended that a survey be made at the schools to determine the type of activity requested by the student for the summer program -A, recommendation recommend-ation will be made following this study and appointments made, he Indicated. City Engineer has also been authorized to draw up plans and call for bids for the laying of a sewer line from North Main Street to dlposal plant Specifications will be available in the near future. fu-ture. Mayor Anderson also indicated that the city council, along with the City Water Commission, would be In session with Attorney Attor-ney John Boyden of Salt Lako City for the purpose of considering consid-ering the matter of water from the Kolob Reservoir project Another special session of the council will also be called to negotiate ne-gotiate franchise agreements with two concerns California-Pacific California-Pacific Utilities Company and the Fetrolane-Utah Gas Company Com-pany In regard to natural gas rights in the city. Both companies compan-ies have returned franchises to the city and they will be compared com-pared and considered at the meeting, to be announced at a later date. Two applications for culinary water outside the city limits of Cedar City were accepted by the council at the meeting. Applications Applica-tions were submitted by Mrs. Edward Ed-ward Pectol and by Lorraine Condle. Both are located adjacent adja-cent to Highway 91 south of Cedar Ce-dar City. |
