CITY SWIMMING POOL RENOVATION An extensive renovation program pro-gram is now underway at the Cedar City Municipal Swimming Pool to put it in readiness for the 1961 fcummer season, accord-ing accord-ing to Mayor Arnold Anderson. In addition to the renovation of the pool itself the Cedar City Council has also taken action to replace the glass walls on the West and South sides with brick, owing to the extensive damage that is suffered during the idle winter months. During the past several seasons sea-sons a patching program has been undertaken on the sides and bottom of the pool to make It usable, but this season the spat roatine on the bottom of the pool has been removed and all loose cement on the sides has been removed. This week a new floor, 3 to 4 Inches in depth is being poured and complete repairs on the sides are being made. At the conclusion conclu-sion of the new cement work a vice-glazing coat of plastic material ma-terial will be placed on the sides ' to help protect the cement. Work on the pool Is under contract con-tract with Blackburn and Gower Construction Co. of Cedar City. At the same time the glass walls on the two sides of the pool are being stripped away in preparation for brickwork to replace re-place them. Contract for this was awarded by the City Council to Brazier and Matheson at $1014.91. Two other bids on this phase or the program were received, ac- j cording to Mayor Anderson. They j were submitted by Leo Banks of Cedar City at $1028 and by Blackburn and Gower for $1035. The wall which presently surrounds sur-rounds the wading pool on the south end of the municipal pool, has been removed and the new brick wall will be placed inside the wading pool area, leaving it accessible from the outside and closed off fmm th general pool area. The wading pool has not been in use for years and the principal princi-pal reason for its non-use is the fact that the filtering system at the pool has been inadequate to handle the wading pool. The city plans to fill the wading wad-ing pool with white sand so that children will be able to use it as a sandplle and it will be adjacent adja-cent to other playground equipment equip-ment in the park. Efforts are being rushed this week in order 'that the pool will be opened for operation sometime some-time during the week of June 12 through 17. Pourlns of the concrete con-crete began this week and the plastic coating is due for installation instal-lation early next week, the Mayor May-or said. The Municipal pool will be under un-der the direction of Wallace Osborne, Os-borne, who has managed the pool for the past several years. |
