Show Utah Guardsmen Begin Intensive Training at Camp V. G. Williams Utah National Guardsmen from the communities of Cedar City, Beaver, St. George, Fillmore and Richfield, members of the 2nd , Howitzer Battalion, 222nd Artillery, Artil-lery, embarked at sunrise Sunday Sun-day morning for a two-week encampment en-campment at Camp W. G. Wll- liams at Point of the Mountain in northern Utah. There they Joined with other Utah Guardsmen for the annual training encampment The battalion bat-talion convoy arrived at Camp Williams Sunday afternoon and early this week left the camp arta to the firing ranges where they are blvouaced until late lr- day afternoon. While on bivouac the battalion will conduct firing exercises with the 155 mm trailer drawn howitzers in practical problems. Thursday, June 8 is slated as the big day for the battalion as they will round out the battalion firing problems under the control of Battalion commander Lt CoL Max S. Dalley. Friday the battalion will return re-turn to Camp Williams where they will participate in activities of Governor's Day Saturday, June 10. Second week of training will be confined to field exercises with battery tests on Wedesday, June 14. Members of the unit will return re-turn to their respective communities commun-ities the following Saturday and will complete the two-week training period with a "pay call" Sunday, June 18. The 2d Howitzer Battalion con slsts of 24 officers and 206 en-listed en-listed men. Headquarters, and Headquarters Battery, which is located in Cedar City Is presently present-ly staffed with 79 officers and men under the command of Capt Rulan D. Woodbury. Firing units of the battalion are located at St George, Fillmore, Fill-more, and Richfield with Service Battery stationed at Beaver. |
