Show Firemen's Auxiliary Reviews Year's Gains I (Prepared by the Firemen's ' Ladies Auxiliary) In the January meeting of the Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary, of Cedar City two projects for the year were discussed and voted on, according to Ethel Thompson, Thomp-son, president of the organization. organiza-tion. The first project was to get some cupboards suitable to hold the dishes that were bought two years ago by the auxiliary. There are enough dishes and silverware for 60 place settings. i The second idea was to fix up old furniture in the new fire house building. This was suggested sug-gested because of the many meetings that are being held there. Since then we have received help far beyond our expectations. The Firemen have Joined with us and the Mayor and City Council have all cooperated fully with us. As a result the cupboards are in. Bill Hills built them free of charge in his spare time. The city paid for the material, and the Fire ladies are very pleased with such a fine Job. Ross Glass installed the sink he gave to the Fire Department a year ago. Craig Neptune gave an electric stove with two ovens and It was Installed by Craig, Karl Taylor and Frank Goddard. Bill and Ruth Hills pained the cupboards cup-boards and walls and new tile from the Cedar Lumber Co. is being installed on the floors. Frank Goddard, who works a 24-hour shift at the Firehouse, nas been very helpful and cooperative. co-operative. On behalf of the offic ers of the Firemen's Auxiliary we wish to extend our thanks and apreciation to everyone who has helped in this fine project in any way. If and when the firemen's convention is held in Cedar City again there will be a new kitchen kitch-en to facilitate the convention activities. As the Firemen's Ladies are not a civic group and was organized or-ganized In the first place to help the firemen at all t'mes. our projects have been selected to improve the conditions at the fire house and to help the firemen fire-men at all times. Six years ago we organized to help put over the -Firemen's 1950 State Convetlon that was held in Cedar City. It turned out to be a big convention and has since received much favorable comment from those In attend-a attend-a nee. Recently a meeting was held to decide whether to put in a bid again for the 1957 convention for Cedar City. In attendance at the meeting was Fire Chief Ralph Hanzon and Mrs. Hanzon, secretary Ross Glass, historian Zelma Glass; Karl Taylor; Mrs. Paul Stewart, vice president; Mrs. Sidney Thompson, president; presi-dent; Mrs. Wendell Slack, secretary, secre-tary, and Mrs. Robert Huntington, Hunting-ton, director. A party was given at the fire house on May 1 by the firemen and at the business meeting a vote was taken on the convention conven-tion proposal and the group favored making a bid for the 1957 convention. The bid will be made at the 1956 convention to be held at Price. |
