Show Ground Breaking Fete Launches New Building Construction Ground breaking and pre-con-struction ceremonies officially started work on the College of Southern Utah trades and Industries In-dustries building Saturday noon. Since the Utah Building Board awarded the contract, no time Intervened, and construction on the footings will begin next week. On hand for the ceremonies were Dr. Royden C. Bralthwaite, director of C S U, Dr. Daryl Chase, president of U S A C and Its branches; Elder LcGrande Richards, Rich-ards, chairman of the board of trustees; Charles R. Hunter, a member of that board; Art Jensen, Jen-sen, representing the Jensen Construction Con-struction Company of Salt Lake City, who was successful bidder; L. Robert Gardner, building architect; ar-chitect; Arnold E. Anderson mayor of Cedar City, and other state, college, city and newspaper newspap-er officials. The new trades and Industries building will be located on 500 West between 100 and 200 South Streets. It "will occupy .part of the space where the stock sher now stands, and will extend north 150 feet. Part of the shed will be used for construction storage stor-age during erection of the building. build-ing. Located across the street is the men's dormitory. According to contract the building will be completed In time for occupancy next year, or 330 days. The teaching of woodwork, auto au-to mechanics, welding, body and fender work, carpentry, and farm mechanics will b centralized In the new building. Floor plans call for 16,000 square feet - |
