Show Team Performance Tops in League In three nights of play with each of the six teams in the Little League participating in a single game, the Elks Rulers, the Milne Truckers and the Lion Tamers have compiled wins while Rotary, Columbia and Ki-wanis Ki-wanis have suffered losses. Following an impressive parade pa-rade Monday afternoon and a brief ceremony at the Little League park, Pat Rogers, manag. er of Utah Parks Company and a former member of the New York Yankees, threw in the first ball to Jimmy Nelson of the Elks Rulers. Nelson took the clue and scored his first win when the Elks dumped the Rotary Rangers in to 11 to 7 fracas. In that opening game Ronald Englestead of the Rotary nine pounded out the first home run of the season. It came in the fourth inning That home run proved to be only one of 11 in the first three games, however. Sets Record Melvin Clark, chunky third baseman for Milne Truckers, compiled a record that will probably prob-ably be in the Little League books for a long time In his team route of Columbia 21 to 5 Tuesday night. Clark pounded out four home runs in a single game, was at the plate only five times and was credited with nine runs bat-ted-in. His team scored eight runs in the third inning and in that inning Clark hit two over the fence. His first three trips to the plate went for homers and he missed only on the fourth try. He again tied into one for his fourth of the evening in the sixth inning. Wayne Roberts was on the mound for Milne and allowing al-lowing only seven hits. Wednesday evening the Lions and Klwanis clubs met for a duel of pitchers with Steven Ca-noon Ca-noon of the Lions and Kent Smith of the Kiwanis putting on a unique demonstration. Of the total of 36 outs In the six inning game, 31 were made by strikeouts by those two pitchers. Smith compiled 16 strikeouts and allowed four hits while Cahoon. the winning pitcher, had 15 strikeouts and only two hits. Cahoon. in addition, pounded out two home runs to lead his team in that department as well. The only two hits he allowed were off the bat of Donald Roberts Rob-erts and both of these hits were home runs. Both of Robert's homers came with a man on base and accounted for four of his club's five runs. |
