Show Coach Jackson To Leave High School Post GLEN X. JACKSON Glen R. Jackson, popular coach at the Cedar City High School for the past nine years, announced announc-ed this week his resignation from the post to accept a similar post, tlon with the Jordan High School of the Jordan School District In , Salt Lake County, The announcement was made Friday when Jackson formally notified the Iron County School Board of his decision to make the move. Jackson has held his position as football, wrestling and trck coach at the Cedar City school for nine years. He came to Cedar High In 1947 after completing schooling and a short time in San Diego, Calif. Scant Job In his new canadtv with the Jordan High School Jackson will be associated with the same, sports as he was at the Cedar school. He will be an assistant In football, head of the wrestling rid m'I 1 1 T?CTn 7?itii track in the class A school. - ' According to superintendent of schools Ianthus Wright, efforts to replace Coach Jackson at the earliest possible date will be made. Applcants who filed for the position recently vacated by Ray Englestead will be screened. However, Wright Indicated that most of those applicants had not had much experience with football. foot-ball. Coach Jackson Indicated that he had enjoyed the years spent here In Cedar City, particularly the association with the fine boys that he has worked with In the various athletic capacities. "Although I feel I'm leaving one of the best potential football foot-ball teams of my career here at Cedar City, nevertheless, I am making the move because I feel It Is an advancement for me," the coach said. Will Attend Clinic He plans to attend the coaching coach-ing clinic In Salt Lake City beginning be-ginning Monday, June 4 after which he will return to Cedar City to make arangements to move his family to the northern city. Jackson indicated that he would make the move as soon as his personal matters could be straightened out. Jackson has contributed much to the comunlty in his nine years In Cedar City outside of his school activities. He has beert very active In the Wildlife Fed. eration, serving as president of that organization one year. Many boys who have worked under him and the community geenrally will surely miss the Jacksons. He has complied an enviable record In football while on the Cedar campus, winning the divi-slon divi-slon crown consistently. In wrestling he has put the Cedar School on the top and In 1953 I captured the state class B track and field championship. This ; season, 1946, he staged a most - successful Regional track and field meet here In Cedar City. |
