Show Representatives From Small Business Adm. Confer With Escalante Valley Civic Leaders Representatives from the United Unit-ed Slates Small Business Administration Admin-istration visited Escalante Valley Monday to make a study of industrial in-dustrial and business potnetlal of the valley and to advise the valley development committee and coordinating council as to what could be done to build a more stable year-round economy for the area. Danlelson, chief of procurement pro-curement and technical Assistance Assist-ance division, Denver; and Ross Typhus, manager of the Salt Lake City Branch office, spent the day In the valley visiting all businesses and touring the valley val-ley from an agricultural point of view. They were accompanied by Wallace Sjoblom, Iron County Agricultural Agent. Valley leaders have found that too many residents must leave the area during the winter months to find employment and hope to develop industrially to overcome this situation. In the evening the Small Business Bus-iness Administration representatives representa-tives met with residents of the valley at which they presented their findings and conducted a discussion of area needs and problems. It was also recommended that a Community Development Corporation Cor-poration be organized as a means of obtaining federal financing fi-nancing for industrial development develop-ment During the day the representatives represen-tatives conferred with a number of individuals on private financing financ-ing and gave considerable encouragement en-couragement to some of these citizens. Considerable progress is being made in Industrial development of the valley, and greater progress pro-gress Is expected as a result of the visit of the government officials. |
