Parks 5 4 .556 " Power 5 4 .556 Construction 3 6 .334 First half of play Is over In the Cedar City Pony League baseball and it is nearly as if the teams had never begun the seson, except ex-cept that each has nine games under Its belt. In a frantic last week of play California-Pacific Utilities Company Com-pany posted wins over Arden Dairy and Utah Parks to throw the race into a three-way tie for first place. Although Utah Construction Con-struction finished on the bottom of the heap they were only two games out of the race and their three wins during the half played play-ed a decisive part In the final outcome. Crys of overpowered teams and unmatched events In the early part of the season were pretty well snuffed out with the three-way three-way tie, Indicating about as close a league as could possibly be hoped for by fans and Pony League officials. Don A. Matheson of Cal.-Pc, was an Instrumental factor In the final outcome as he pitched his Power crew to two victories during the week to down last week's first and second place teams and throw the race Into the three-way tie. He came In In relief last Thursday evening and pitched his way to victory over Arden, 9 to 7. Monday evening Matheson was again on the mound and he held Utah Parks to a single run as his team breezed to a 9 to 1 victory. In addition to his his pitching he pounded out the only homer of the week In this contest As mentioned Utah Construction Construc-tion played an Important part and It wasn't until Construction In the final game of the half Tuesday, walloped Arden 19 to 4 In four innings of play that the race was so tied up. Marlon Robb was the winning pitcher and Neil Roberts took the loss for ArdenJ Parks, In action last Friday evening, downed Construction 15 to 5 with Bruce Stucki on the mound for the winners and John Logan the loser for Construction. No time is lost before the two teams begin the battle for second half honors. The league action resumes this evening, Thursday and will continue each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday! evening. |
