Show Cedar City Plans Extensive -Independence Day Celebration; Begins July 3 Extensive plans for the celebration of Independence Day in Cedar City have been lined up with several organizations organi-zations and clubs of the community cooperating to make it a top entertainment attraction of the year. General planning is under the direction of the BPOE with orther organizations sponsoring specific activities of the day and a half celebration. Starting off the celebration will be a rodeo sponsored by the Iron Raneers of Cedar Cl-1 ' Ity at the rodeo grounds in Cedar Canyon. The rodeo, featuring top flight local talent, will be stag-'ed stag-'ed on Friday, July 3 and the grand march is slated to begin at 7:30 p. m. according to Wes Mullet, Mul-let, general chairman. Cooperating in the sponsorship of the rodea is Cedar Stake LDS Priesthood groups who are conducting con-ducting the advance ticket sales for the event Adult admissions have been set at $1.00 and children, chil-dren, under 12 years of ago, at 50 cents. The July 3 rodeo is becoming one of the top annual events of the Independence Day celebration celebra-tion and starts things rolling in the 1959 activities. Saturday, July 4 is the official observanse of Independence Day and the activities in Cedar City on that day will get underway with a special salute at day break. Martial band music in the earlv hours of the mornine will be played throughout the city to be followed by the Lady Lions! annual Miniature Parade. The miniature parade, sponsored sponsor-ed by the Lady Lions of Cedar City 111 gat vndar way at fcj m. Parade entries will assemble at 400 South Street and the" parade pa-rade will proceed north on Main Street to the city park. Prizes In each division of the parade will bo awarded. Theme of this year's parade will be "Under the Sea." In addition ad-dition the usual patriotic section, nursery rhymes and vehicles sec- tlon tricycles, bicycles wagons,! and doll buggies will be Judged. Judg-ed. Special invitations is extended by the Lady Lions for mercnants, groups, neighborhoods and individuals indi-viduals to participate. Royalty for the miniature parade par-ade will be selected at a contest to be held Friday evening at the Second Ward chapel. A young king and queen three to four years of age plus their attendants, attend-ants, will grace the royalty float and lead the event down Main Street Cedar City Elks Lodge will again handle the concessions at the municipal park. All types of booths and games will be available avail-able including the popular dunking dunk-ing board, the duck pond and others. This event Is under the direction of Wes McEown. Cash prizes will be awarded In each of these events with children participating participat-ing on the basis of age, according accord-ing to Ray Lee and Boyd Adams, who will be in charge of the racing rac-ing events. At 4 p. m. a children's dance at the tennis courts on the municipal mu-nicipal park will be staged and at 5:30 p. m. Little League baseball base-ball will be played at the Elks Little League park. At 9 p. m. the Cedar City Volunteer Vol-unteer Fire Department will stage its annual fireworks display dis-play on the east side of the city. Parking on the baseball diamond will again be available and the display will be set off on the foothills Just east of the park area. This event has been outstanding out-standing in the past and all efforts ef-forts are being made to make this year's display one of the most exciting ever staged. Those in charge point out that the fireworks will begin promptly prompt-ly at 9 p. m. so that parents with small children will be able to bring them out for the aerial and ground type fireworks display. |
