Show Planning Commission On 400 South Artery The Cedar City Planning Commission Com-mission is again urging the city to take as early action as possible possi-ble on improving 400 South St. from Main Street wt as a main artery to the rapidly growing southwest section of the city. The section of the city has expanded ex-panded materially in the past few years, and with the opening of . the new South Elementary School this fall, travel to the section, sec-tion, reached primarily on 400 South Street, will increase tremendously. tre-mendously. In addition plans to locate a new high school at 600 South and 300 West will Increase the expansion and the traffic. The most logical approach to the center of town from the expanding ex-panding area will be 400 South and 300 West streets, and the planning commission members feel that it Is Imperative that these streets be Improved as soon as possible, and the city administration admin-istration is being urged to take action accordingly. Improvement of 400 South is especially urgent, they point out because this street is narrow and must be Improved to carry heavy traffic satisfactorily. An Irrigation canal along the north side of the street from near Main Street to 300 West reduces the usable space considerably. In addition the entrance to the street from Main Street is a serious ser-ious problem because the South and West Field Irrigation Company Com-pany canal goes down the side of the street for several rods before be-fore turning southwest Improvement of the street ha- ben under consideration by the city administration and the planning plan-ning group for some time, and engineering plans call for covering cover-ing the large Irrigation canal at the entrance of the street and widening the street by the in-stallatlnn in-stallatlnn of curb and gutter on the north side of the street The planning Is well under way, and the - planning commission has urged prompt action In getting .the improvement project under way at the earliest possible mo I ment |
