Jones Receives Lieutenant Bars At Guard Ceremonies Nineteen Utah National Guard members, including Thomas J. Jones of Cedar City, received the gold bars of second lieutenants Saturday, June 20. The third graduating class of the Utah National Guard Military Mili-tary Academy stated its last day of cadethood by dunkng one tactical officer who Friday escaped es-caped his traditional dip in the officers' swimming pool. Lt. Jones, member of Headquarters Head-quarters Battery, 213th Field Artillery Ar-tillery Battalion, was also accorded ac-corded additional honors. In impressive im-pressive commissioning ceremonies, ceremon-ies, Dr. O. Preston Robinson presented pre-sented the coveted Silver Sabre award to Lt Jonec in recognition of his selection as the outstanding outstand-ing cadet to graduate this year. The 19 men who traded the red-stripped suntan uniforms of the cadets for bold bars were the hardiest of 30 candidates who entered en-tered the academy during the 195 summer camp. They went through two fast-paced summer camps and three week ends between be-tween to become the academy's third graduating class. |
