The greenllngs of the Redmen I team, six of the 13-man squad . are sophomores, will be matched in the two contests against two squads who both have good ex-j ex-j perience returning from last sea-' sea-' son's play. Junior varsity squad games will be played beginning at 6:3C p. m. with the varsity teams slated on both evenings at 8. Jerry Bertleson, coach at Millard Mil-lard High School will have foui of his starters from last season back on the court this season and although he plans to test some Juniors and seniors in the E squad game early in the evening, the basic unit, if nothing else, has experience. Last year Bertleson Bertle-son started new at Millard, cutting every senior from the squad, starting a building program pro-gram that now has experience and some pretty fine accounting account-ing toward the end of the 1962 season. Panguitch, under the coaching coach-ing of Bob Davis Davis and Bertleson played together in Cedar Ce-dar City for the College of Southern South-ern Utah has a similar experience. exper-ience. Starting from scratch the Bobcats are pretty well in force on the starting five, a group thai has been together for the past two years and this year should be a rough bunch to handle. Several uncertainties are still evident for Coach Bruce Decker , of the Redmen. Four returning lettermen are expected to get the starting call Friday in the season opener; however only one, Nell Roberts, an all-stater last ' year, has extensive experience. 1 Roberts v.ill start at the center 1 post with two other seniors, Hans ' Chamberlain and Danny Jones, 1 at the guard spots. Both saw lim-' lim-' ited action last season. At one of the forward spots will be Lee Hunter, a Junior, who also saw some action as a sophomore last ' year. , The fifth spot on the team, a forward position, is wide open, I with two sophomores, and a Junior, Jun-ior, in the running. From the sophomore ranks there is Collin . Watson and Dick Lambeth in the running against Junior, Wes Roberts. Rob-erts. Also expected to see considerable con-siderable action will be Don Reid. a Junior at one of the guard 1 spots along with sophomore John ' Black. Coach Decker expects to give every member of his squad an opportunity to see some action to : evaluate their performance un- der fire. He indicated that the squad, al- i though green, has been adept at picking up patterns and he hopes ! that they will be able to continue I to perform as well in inter-school competition. |
