Show Hunting Is Starting To Take Over Sporting Interest "Big Fish" catches have the local sportsmen all agog, but just the same they are beginning begin-ning to turn their attention to hunting events that are just around the corner. This season promises to bo Utah's most extensive ex-tensive in many, many years. For the first time an open season sea-son was declared on Mourning Doves this year. The dove season will open on Sept. 1 and end on Sept. 9. Iron county is one of eight counties with such an open season. A two-day sage grouse season is scheduled for Sept. 15 and 16, with 120 permits to be sold for hunting in tu areas in Iron county, GO for Bear valley and 60 for Dog valley. The Bear valley hunting area includes all drainages drain-ages of upper and lower Bear valleys south of Highway 20 and west of the junction of Bear valley val-ley road and highway 20. The Dog valley area includes the drainages of Dog valley and little lit-tle Dog valley west of highway 89. The bag limit on grouse will be four birds, daily and season. The proclamation for the annual an-nual deer hunt was published this week, wi;!i a new plan for the hunt adopted this year. In past years permits have been sold for bucks only during the regular hunt in most areas, with special hunts set-up for the removal re-moval of does in areas where it was felt necessary. This year, however, the hunt will be for either sex during the regular season sea-son except in a very few areas in the state. The hunting permit per-mit will allow each hunter one deer, either sex, and there will be no post-seascn hunts during which hunters may go out and gee a second deer. The season will open on Oct. 20 and close on Oct. 30. One area in this part of the state will be open to buck hunting hunt-ing only. That is designated as the West Deseit area, and includes in-cludes the ar?a between the Union Un-ion Pacific Railroad line and the Nevada state line. There is a similar "buck only" hunt area in the Uintahs and a few areas of the northern portion of the state are closed entirely. Other than that the hunt will be an either sex deal throughout the state. The elk hunt season will be from Oct. 6 to 1G, inclusive, with applications for permits dates set for Aug. 3 to 2.1, inclusive. The pheasant season will open on Nov. 3 with areas and other details de-tails of the hunt to be announced later. |
