E. Lindsay of Salt Lake City was forced off the road and overturned over-turned with a load of watermelons. watermel-ons. Investigation of the freak accident acci-dent was made bv State TrooDer J. Lowe Barton. Although the time of the accident was at 3 A. M. a report was not made until 11 P. M. Sunday evening or 20 hours later. Driver of the truck was Keith Lamar Deveraux of Salt Lake City who sustained five fractured ribs. A second occupant of the truck was in the sleeper compartment and was uninjured. Occupants of the car, east bound on the graveled road, apparently ap-parently became stuck and backed back-ed directly in front of the semitrailer semi-trailer truck which was headed toward Paragonah. Deveraux swerved to miss the car and his truck turned on it's, side as it was forced from the highway. Occupants of the car, unknown, and identified only as a young couple by the truck driver, left the scene without investigation. Damage of the truck and trailer trail-er plus the loss of the 21 ton watermelon cargo amounted to the tremendous damage estimate. Watermelons were strewn all over the mountain side according to Trooper Barton. |
