Show I City Councilmen i Act on I Present Problems I At the Monday evening meet ing of the City Council, definite I action was taken to procure a i new dump ground for Parowan I City, the necessity for which is j imperative because of the con-1 con-1 dition of the present city dump. Councilman Heber Gurr has taken ta-ken the initiative in the efforts to procure the new dump ground, with assistance from other members mem-bers of the council, and he has investigated almost every acre of land around the outskirts of the city. He reported at Monday's meeting that the only piece of land available for such use is a piece of land two miles southwest south-west of the city south of what is known as the First Mound, and which is owned by Karl O. Mitchell, Mitch-ell, and formerly belonged to Edward Bentley of Provo. Mitchell had offered to sell a piece of the land he owns to Parowan City, and Councilman Gurr, with other members of the public safety committee, was instructed to make a deal with Mitchell to purchase the necessary neces-sary land for the dump ground, along with a right of way to it. At the same meeting City Recorder Re-corder Verda E. Adams reported that she had sent out third notices no-tices to those who had not paid their cemetery assessments; also that she had called some person- j ally and that Max Hendrickson. city supervisor, had contacted some of the delinquents. But she stated that there were still a number of lots on which the as-I as-I sessment is still unpaid. After ! careful consideration a decision l was made to instruct the ceme-j ceme-j tery caretaker to discontinue watering wa-tering and moving these lots until un-til the owners pay for their care. In other action . during the meeting the council passed a motion that Ross Guymon's sal- ary as city electrician be set at j $350 per month with $30 for car i expepses. j Much time was spent in dis- i cussing the city recreation pro-( pro-( gram, especially the improve-i improve-i ments started on the football : field at the high school. The County Recreation committee has made an appropriation of funds to Parowan for recreation purposes, pur-poses, but it must be matched with a similar amount by the city, an amount the city can't match in cash at the present time. A portion of the amount can be matched with labor and materials, and it was decided that this was to be done as soon as possible. |
