Over the three-day period the young ladies participated In a host of events including craft classes and recreational activities activi-ties that were termed outstanding outstand-ing by a goodly share of the participants. par-ticipants. Wednesday, July 6, opening day of the encampment, the young ladies made over 100 pieces of leathercraft goods' plus enjoying nature hikes, swimming and boating, and other such activities, ac-tivities, according to Mrs. Dan Crawford, director of the outing. Thursday evening, following a similar day of activities, the MIA girls entertained nearly 100 townspeople at a campfire program pro-gram that was conducted under the direction of Bea Roberts and Mrs. Dixie Leavitt. Through Thursday and Friday crafts were confined mostly to basket weaving and over 200 baskets bas-kets were produced by the group In the gigantic program. Surfboard riding was possibly the one outstanding highlight of the event for most of the girls at the MIA camp. For the first time practically all of the young ladies were given an opportunity opportuni-ty to ride the surfboard on beautiful beau-tiful Navajo Lake. Proper precautions pre-cautions were taken and all enjoyed en-joyed the sport tremendously. |
