Show Driver Record Survey Reveals Occidents Caused by Recklessness In the recont spot check of automobile driver records at the Driver License Division at the State Capitol, 2500 cards were picked at random. Examinations of these cards brought out the following rather startling facts. Forty-four per cent of all drivers have traffic violations, 27 per cent of the drivers have been involved in-volved In an accident, 29 per cent of the drivers involved in .accidents have previous traffic violations. The 330 accident drivers driv-ers with previous violations had 285 accidents, 250 speeding arrests, ar-rests, 76 stop sign violations, 71 negligent driving arrests, and 165 other violations. The 675 accident ac-cident drivers have 9G0 accidents or nearly I'd accidents per driver; driv-er; the accident drivers with previous pre-vious violations averaged 2.6 violations vio-lations each. All of the fatal accidents ac-cidents listed under previous violations vio-lations were due to sleeping or drunken driving. Recklessness Is a very great factor in accidents which is shown by the fact that the 675 drivers involved in accidents had subsequently 178 accidents, 118 speeding violations and 101 other , violations, a total of 397 in-j stances- in which the law was disobeyed. It then appears that half of the drivers involved in accidents could be classified as reckless. Few people realize how complete com-plete the records of the Driver License Division are. One who violates the law, if he is arrested arrest-ed and pays the fine, Is still not in the clear, as his record at the capitol remains and may influence in-fluence the renewal of his license, li-cense, or even, in some cases cause the suspension of his right to drive. What do you think your record rec-ord is? You know better than anyone else. If it is not good, you may be a potential killer. Why not in the future be sure that there will be no more violations on your record and thus decrease greatly your chances of an accident. |
