Show Iron County School Budget to Be Aired fit Public Hearing A public hearing on the proposed pro-posed budget of expenditures for the operation of Iron County schools during the 1953-54 year, will be held at the Board of Education Edu-cation offices Monday evening, June 22. Immediately following the hearing the board will meet to finally adopt the budget before be-fore the beginning of the fiscal year. A tentative budget of $587,110.-40 $587,110.-40 has been adopted by the board which is $55,259.50 more than the budget for the current year. The proposed budget includes in-cludes funds for an increase in all teachers' salaries, which was adopted recently by the board, and provides for a staring salary og $3,000 for new teachers with a bachelor's degree, an increase of $175 per year for such teachers teach-ers over the present schedule. The total operating budget for the current year was $531,850.00. The total budget of expenditures expendi-tures for the school district however, how-ever, has been placed at $812,-615.40, $812,-615.40, since building funds must be added to the operating budget. bud-get. The budget will include $210,697.00 for the reserve building build-ing future, and $14,808 for debt service. The tentative tax levy has been set at 14.85 mills, which, of course, cannot be definitely set until the amount of the state uniform school levy has been determined. de-termined. The total levy by the school district will include a quarter of a mill for recreational purposes pur-poses in the county. This is the first time such a levy has been made, and it is to be used in cooperation co-operation with the county and cities and towns of the county in providing a county recreation program. Although the Iron County school board has approved a definite def-inite teacher salary schedule, with a substantial raise for all teachers, contracts have not yet been mailed to the prospective teachers. The Iron County school district boasts the second highest assessed assess-ed valuation of any of the districts dis-tricts of the state, primarily as a result of the high assessment on iron mining operations in the county and a high public utility valuation. |
