Show Wind-Aided Fire Occurs in Dixie National Forest A forest fire of unknown origin ori-gin accompanied by winds up to 45 miles per hour occurred this j week on the south Henry knolls I northwest of Bower Flat on the Navajo Lake district of the Dixie National Forest reports fire control con-trol officer Boyd Leonard. This fire which was attacked within a few minutes by a forest service insect control crew of six men under the supervision of Grant Seaman of Cedar City was controlled after a difficult fight. Mr. Seaman reported that the high wind was carrying spot fires nearly one-fourth mile ahead of the main blaze. The fire was fought with shovel and pulaski tools under indian fire pumps and other forest service fire fighting equipment could be rushed to the scene of action. The forest fuels are extremely dry for this time of year states Mr. Leonard and the behaviour of i this fire may be an indication of, the approach of a worse than normal fire season in this area.1 Conservation does not mean DISuse it means wise USE. |
