Show Funeral Services Held for Mrs. Flora Arris Services were conducted at the Presbyterian church in Cedar City Monday afternoon for Mrs. Flora Sturdevant Arns, 85, mother moth-er of Melville D. and Howard Arns. Mrs. Arns died in St. George on Thursday, June 11. after having hav-ing been in poor health for about two years. She suffered a stroke in August, 1952 and her health has failed steadily since. She was born in Minnesota on Aug 4, 1867, and spent her youth in that state. On March 20, 1889 she married Wm. G. Arns and they made their home in Iowa and Minnesota until 27 years ago when they moved to Cedar City. Mr. Arns died about 10 years ago. She is survived by three sons and three daughters, Melville D. and Howard Arns, Cedar City; Vernon Arns, Los Angeles; Mrs. Etta Fairchild, Cowley, Minn.; Mrs. Irene Wicks, Madsen, Wis., and Mrs. Alice Lehner, Richfield, Wash., all of whom were present for the funeral services, except Mrs. Lehner. Twelve grandchildren grandchil-dren and 20 great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral services were con-(ducted con-(ducted by Rev. Wm. Burton of the Community Presbyterian church, with Charles R. Hunter as speaker. Musical numbers included in-cluded a vocal duet. "In The Garden", by Mr. and Mrs. Howard How-ard Wood; a vocal solo, "I'm a Pilgrim", by Ralph Hafen, and a vocal duet, "Tenderly Calling", by Mrs. William Burton and Mrs. W. F. Kennedy. Mrs. Bernella Jones was accompanist. Burial was in the Cedar City cemetery with the dedicatory prayer by Bishop James Heywood of the Cedar Fifth ward. Members Mem-bers of the Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian church were in charge of the flowers and officers offi-cers of the Cedar City Elks lodge acted as pall bearers. |
