Show Missionary Praised for His Labors The following articje and bits of a letter were sent to the Iron County Record by Edith Stewart of Coffeyville, Kan. The article concerns Gary Smith of Cedar City and the letter the work of the L D S missionaries in that area: The article was written by Edith Stewart under the column heading, "Facts and Fancies," and appeared in a Coffeyville paper pa-per as follows: A feat, spiritual and otherwise, was attended by 65 guests in the basement of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sunday, Sun-day, Nov. 13. It was held in honor hon-or of Gary Smith who is an Elder i of the Central Kansas District. FJder Smith is 25 years of age and ... is now leaving for his: home in Cedar City. j . . . His many friends here are' sorry to have him leave because! they learned to love him for his sincerity, high ideals of purpose and deep knowledge of the Gos-i pel. He has worked faithfully. Elder Smith has performed 23 baptisms. He will be greatly; missed by all who knew him. His; humbleness and faithfulness were a good example to the youth of the communiay. We are sure that he is pleasing our Heaven-j ly Father. The children liked him! especially well because of his fun-loving disposition and his sense of humor and all waved to him a cheery goodbye as the train pulled out of the station and with peaceful hearts they returned re-turned to their homes. Since this article appeared in the Coffeyville paper. Gary has returned to Cedar City where he is continuing his active work in the church. In the letter accompanying the article Edith Stewart gave some interesting information regarding regard-ing the missionary work in that city. She states that "eight years ago the L D S Church had four wmen members and one 12 year old child. Through prayer and work by these sisters and the missionaries . . . converts were made. "Now the church has acquired a new -$9,000 chapel, and the branch has approximately 80 in its membership. |
