Show BAC Drops Close Tourney Tilt To Ventura, 59-51 The Branch Agricultural college col-lege basketball team dropped its opening game of the Cheffey tournament, which opened in Ontario, On-tario, Calif, last nigftt, but made a very good impression on teams roaches and spectators even in defeat. The Broncos tangled with the Ventura junior college team in the feature game of the opening round, and went down to defeat by a score of 59 to 51. Ventura walked off with the tournament championship last year, and has been rated as. the team to beat In this year's Joust. The California Califor-nia squad lived up to pre-tourn-nament ratings and presented a well polished and balanced team for the opening game. In spite of the excellent play shown by the champions, Coach Ray Lindquist's Broncos made a real scrap of it throughout, and were never too far away not to be a serious threat. The Broncos took an early lead in the game but fell behind by half-time after af-ter a see saw battle. The score was 31 to 25 at the end of the first period of play. Coach lindquist started Del Ray Hatch and Erie Reese at forward, for-ward, Max Bond at center, and Don Mcintosh and Dont Tuft at guard. Bond left the game by way of the foul route in the first minute of the second half, and Dick Southwick carried on at the center post durins most of the remaining time. Hal Williams, another promising substitute was definitely "hot", and although.he did not play for a long period he dropped in five field goals. Squad members on the trip besides be-sides those above mentioned are Dix Cloward, Carl Ingersoll, Bob Horton, Joe Valentine, Kent Myers. My-ers. Wayne Christensen, Lewis Edwards and Don Mower. The San Bernardino Indians, who were defeated twice by the Bronocs in games played in the BAC fieldhouse, were victorious in their game with California Polytechnical Institute, and will tangle with the Ventura team this evening. The Broncos will meet the Calif.
