Show C v i.: Local Citizens Act j To Forestall U.S. 91 By-Pass A large group of Parowan citizens, citi-zens, representing the Chamber of Commerce, Junior Chamber of Commerce and Parowan City met with the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce in its regular meeting Monday night. The purpose of the meeting was to consider action ac-tion which may be taken to forestall fore-stall any move to by-pass Parowan Paro-wan if and when a new road is built though eastern Iron county. While no definite move has been made to build such a road, it has been intimated by state road officials on several occasions, occas-ions, that a new road through Parowan valley is being contemplated contem-plated In future plans of the state road department, and that it will by-pass both Parowan and Faragonah. A tentative plan by the state road department to by-pass Ce-dar Ce-dar City has been abandoned because be-cause of efforts of the Cedar City Chamber, and the Parowan group met with the Cedar organization to enlist its aid if such a move develops in Parowan. The Cedar City Chamber assured the local delegation that it would give all the help it could if needed. Parowan's present narrow Main street is probably a big factor in any move that might be made to by-pass the city, and city officials are considering widening wid-ening the street by moving back the curb five or six feet on each side of the street. This coultj be done and still leave plenty of sidewalk room, besides adding 10 or 12 feet to the width of the highway through the city. |
