Show Safflowfr Acretge Safflower is on the move at last In the doldrums of experimentation for two full decades after its first importation from Russia and India, safflower, or false saffron, covered no more than 2.000 acres on America's Ameri-ca's northern greet plains by 1946. Then, earning new support as a commercial crop, the spiny-leafed plant spread to 40,000 acres by 1949. Current government estimates indicate in-dicate the 1950 safflower acreage will be almost four times greater than last year. Furfural, used in the plastics industry, can be made from the hulls. Paper, cardboard, and plastic products can be made from safflower stalks. |
