Show 3 3 Council Passes Ordinance on Street Parking At a recent meeting of the Parowan City Council, an ordinance ordi-nance was passed prohibiting the parking of trucks on the two blocks on Main street in the business district. The two blocks to which the ordinance applies lay between 1st south street and 1st North street. Because of Main street's being narrow, the State Road commission commis-sion has ordered parallel parking along the curb and has painted parking areas on both sides of the street for the two blocks. The space allowed between the lines isn't long enough to accommodate accommo-date trucks of l'4 ton capacity and over, so the ordinance prohibits pro-hibits the parking of such vehicles vehi-cles in the restricted area, according ac-cording to Mayor E. Ray Lyman. Mayor Lyman also states that the City Council has spent much time during recent meetings in trying to divorce Parowan City's! municipal power set up from the Federal Power Commission. The penstock for the plant crosses two section of government owned land on its wav from the intake works to the plant, and while Parowan City has'a right-of-way or easement to cross the land with the pipeline, it has to pay the Federal Power Commission $80 per year for that privilege. While the $80 payment isn't so much for this right, the city officers of-ficers have to file several reports to the commission yearly, and these reports are long and difficult diffi-cult to compile. Parowan City officials have enlisted the help of Senator Watkins w'ho is endeavoring en-deavoring to either help the city get control of the land in question ques-tion or in some other way relieve re-lieve the city of the need for filing these reports and paying the fee. Mayor Lyman also states that so far nothing has been done toward construction of a building build-ing to house the generating ma-chinery ma-chinery for the city's new power plant. He stated that he is contacting con-tacting city engineer Adams this week to get him into action. The plant is supposed to be in operation opera-tion early this fall. |
