Show County Board oi Education Acts on Various Items in Preparation lor School Opening A number of matters were discussed dis-cussed and approved at the meeting of the Board of Education Educa-tion Monday In preparation for the opening of schools early in September. Bids were opened for the fur- nlshing of milk for the school lunch program, and the contract was awarded to the Southern Utah Dairy Company of Parowan. Paro-wan. Two bids were received with the Parowan firm offering to furnish the milk for 3.9c per half pint, while the Arden Dairy at Cedar City submitted a bid of 4.2c per half pint. Considerable time was spent in discussing the teacher situation, situa-tion, with a number of vacancies, some of them caused by the calling call-ing of teachers Into military service, ser-vice, still unfilled and with the school opening only three weeks away. Another teacher was lost during the week when Wendle Gardner, veteran training instructor, in-structor, was called from the reserve corps. The board decided that If it is possible to locate a teacher, a school will be opened at Lund, rather than transport the students stu-dents from there to other schools. SupL Ianthus Wright was in-structed in-structed to find a teacher, if possible, pos-sible, and if not, to arrange for transportation. The board approved the purchase pur-chase of two new pianos for the new East elementary school In Cedar City. Reed Berrett submit-ted submit-ted the low bid for furnishing two Kimball pianos and his bid was accepted. The board also gave Its approval ap-proval for the purchase of folding fold-ing tables for the playroom of the East elementary school. Not all the tables needed will be purchased pur-chased this year, but others will be added later. The matter of division of students stu-dents to attend the East and West schools in the various grades was studied in detail and general approval of the plan out-I out-I lined by the Superintendent ap-I ap-I proved. A few minor details of division must yet be worked out. after which Supt. Wright will made a definite announcement on the program.
