Show I Youthful Students Make Study of Community Activities Community activities and enterprises en-terprises are being studied by the second grade . students of the Cedar elementary school. These studies are being made by Mrs. Louise Bennett's class under the direction of Miss Pat Rogers, Ka-nosh, Ka-nosh, a student teacher from the Branch Agricultural college. The first phase of the project, which has been completed, was on grocery stores. Duties of the groceryman and the customer were learned by the students, as well as the value of money. I In learning the grocery store 'process, the class visited the Cedar Ce-dar Frozen Foods and Grocery. There they saw how to handle and arrange groceries. The children child-ren learned that different licenses li-censes are required to operate the stores and to sell a number of commodities. Especially interesting in-teresting to the young students was the frozen foods department. Following the visit to the store, the students wrote stories and poems concerning their trip. A grocery store was constructed in the classroom called "The Sec-ond Sec-ond Grade Grocery". Each day a child in the room is selected to operate the store and the other children go to the store to buy groceries. Booklets are now being made by the class about their various experiences. Similar visits will include trips to the creamery, post office, police department and the telephone company. |
