Show Cedar Stake Quarterly Conference Draws Record Attendance for Two-day Sessions The Cedar Siake Quarterly Conference, the first of the new year, was the largest since the division of the Parowan Stake, with 1,235 people in attendance for the two-day gathering Saturday Satur-day and Sunday. Highlighting the conference were the addresses by Elder Mark E. Peterson, of the Council Coun-cil of the Twelve, and J. Leonard Love of the General Church Welfare Wel-fare committees, both of Salt Lake City. In the Sunday evening general session, Love told those present that there is a challenge to everyone to do better than in the past. He said, "The biggest worry is not communism, not a a war, not an atomic bomb, but rather the saving of man or of placing him in a position so that he can save himself. Love went on to say that the church welfare program is a method of saving people the helped and the helpers. He warned warn-ed that you shouldn't grumble when given tasks by the leaders of the church. Elder Mark E. Peterson told the assembled members of the stake that "there is only one true church, and we Latter-day Saints have that church. All other oth-er churches are churches of men." He went on to warn the congregation, con-gregation, "Don't sell your birthright, birth-right, which Is the church, for something material and earthly. Let's be loyal and faithful to our birthright and chart our course according to the leaders of the church". D. L. Sargent, president of the Cedar stake, presided during the sessions and gac the opening welcome of the conference. During Dur-ing the conference, presentation of the new officers was made and t h retiring officers were released re-leased from their duties. New officers appointed during the conference were: Morris Roberts, Rob-erts, second counselor, third quorum quo-rum of Elders; Alvin Bradshaw, secretary, fifth quorum of Elders, and Lester Roberts, secretary, seventh se-venth quorum of Elders. Lowe, Malcom Porter, Grant Con-die, Con-die, William Mendenhall, Gordon Smith Howard Wood and John M. Brown These men have either, moved away or have assumed other church duties |
