Show Redmen Basketball Squad Continues Practice Game Winning Streak to 6 j The Cedar high school basketball basket-ball team added two more practice prac-tice games to its victory string last week end, taking the measure meas-ure of the Parowan high team Friday night and defeating Pan-guitch Pan-guitch high Saturday night. The showing of the Redmen in these two games, together with previous previ-ous victories against Beaver, Hinckley, Delta and Fillmore, indicates in-dicates that the Cedar team will be very much in the race for the league title and a spot in the state tourney. In both games last week end Coach Alma Garrett started a team of Juniors, a gang of scrappy scrap-py and promising boys, who will make the first stringers fight hard to hold their positions. After Af-ter letting this team play a big portion of the first half of each game, Coach Garrett then substituted sub-stituted a full "first string" team. The performance of both groups indicates that Coach Garrett has plenty of depth at all positions. In the Parowan game, played at Parowan, the Redmen led all the way through the first three periods, but dropped behind in the final quarter. However, they rallied to pull the game out of the fire by a 47-43 margin. The battle was close throughout with Cedar holding quarter leads of 12-9, 23-22. and 37-36. The game against Panguitch was very close during the first half, but the Redmen pulled away in the second half to win by a 44 to 32 margin. Coach Garrett has been using 17 or 18 men in his practice games, but will probably cut his squad down to 12 men for the regular season play. |
