Show American Legion Posts Begin 1950 Tide of Toys The start of the "Tide of Toys" collection by the local American Legion post has been announced this week by L. C. Miles, chairman chair-man of the drive In Cedar ICty. One year ao the "Tide of Toys" was conceived within a few days of the 1949 Christmas season. With very little advance notice, U. S. children gathered three million toys which CARE. Inc. distributed for the American Ameri-can Legion among war-torn countries of Europe. Immediate response from peoples peo-ples of these foreign countries was so touching, that the Legion decided early in 19."0 that the project should be repeated this Christmas on an even larger scale. The national goal is 10 million gifts, of which Utah's quota is one box car of toys. Method of collecting the toys in Cedar City will be through the schools, states Mr. Miles. Every American child will be asked to contribute a favorite toy. not necessarily new, but in good repair, as a token of friendship friend-ship to a tot In lands where Christmas has been Just another bleak day. The junior high school will be the central collection agency for the toys. Contributors are asked to either bring their toys to the school, or phone In. and the toys will be collected by the school children. Some of tne toys will be used for needy children In this area, states, Mr. Miles. Assisting Mr. Miles will be a committee composed of Milton Sevy, Jack Rail.
