Show Legion Auxiliary Hears Teacher Prof. Edwin L. Peterson, political poli-tical science instructor at the Branch Agricultural college, was the speaker at the meeting of t lie American Legion Auxiliary on Wednesday evening, giving a most interesting talk on the subject sub-ject of Universal Military Training. Train-ing. Prof. Peterson maintained that the greatest present day threat against Democracy is the spread of Communism, and expressed the opinion that education is the best weapon against communism's commun-ism's continues! spread. "Universal "Univer-sal Military Training is the answer an-swer to the threat", he said, "because "be-cause it will condition soldiers, body and spul, for conflict if the need arises". He pointed out that the men have a much' better chance of survival if properly trained in advance, and in addition will have a better understanding of the government and the problems prob-lems causing tho conflict. Their time is not wasted as maintained, since they can train for trades, and become better equipped for ife as a result of the training they receive. Following his talk he spent sometime answering questions of the organization members. The meeting was in charge of Mrs. Roy Clothier, chairman of the Auxiliary Legislative committee, com-mittee, and In addition to Prof. Peterson's talk, Mrs. Grace Me-mullin Me-mullin gave a short talk on membership, and president Ellen El-len Bulloch gave a report on a President's and Secretary's conference con-ference held recently in Salt Lake City. Clive Hartman entertained the group with a number of patriotic patrio-tic soios. He was accompanied by Mrs. Beth Leigh. |
