Show Fine Arts Guild Pays Honor to Mary L. Bastow Mary L. Bastow, associate professor pro-fessor of art at the Branch Agricultural Ag-ricultural college, was honored by the women of Cedar City Sunday Sun-day at a tea. The tea was held In the LDS Institute, and was given by the Fine Arts Guild of which organization Miss Bastow is the president. Several hundred women cailed to pay their respects to Miss Bastow, Bas-tow, who has served the community com-munity since coming to the BAC In 1929. She has given her services ser-vices freely to clubs, Individuals and organizations and 1ms done much to assist the community In its appreciation of art. During the afternoon a program pro-gram of music was furnished by Koy L. Halversen and his singing strings. Mrs. V. C. Frame gave u chalk talk, in which she related humorous events which occurred to Miss Bastow. The talk was illustrated il-lustrated by drawings made by Dawn Andrus. Mrs. T. Donald Bell paid a tribute to Miss Bastow Bas-tow in which was outlined the services given to Cedar City by the art teacher. Pouring at the tea were close friends of Miss Bastow, Ella Leigh, Prudence Croft, Clair Jones and Zoe R. Palmer. Members Mem-bers of the Fine Arts Guild acted as receptionists, and took care of the serving. Miss Bastow was with the state department of education before coming to Cedar City, and served serv-ed as assistant profesor of art at Brlgham Young College in Logan, was supervisor of art at Miami, Arizona, and taught summer sum-mer sessions at USAC and the U of U, and did teaching in California. Cali-fornia. Since coming to Cedar City she has served in Southern Utah on the extension service, giving aid to many communities. She has taught interior decorating to adult education classes, has given giv-en numerous lectures and lessons to groups as well as carrying on her teaching program at the Branch Agricultural college. |
