Show Patrons Pleased With College Opera Performance Music lovers of Cedar City were very pleased with the performance of the, members of the Branch Agricultural Ag-ricultural College music department in their presentation of the opera "Martha," Friday and Saturday nights. The opera, directed by William H Manning, was presented under trying try-ing conditions, because of the difficulty dif-ficulty of holding a cast together with military service and war industries in-dustries taking the male members from the cast. A trip through southern south-ern Utah had been planned but this was cancelled when Max MacBeth, who took the male lead, was called to service, leaving Sunday after performing per-forming on Friday and Saturday nights. Tlie cast of principals Included Addle Lund and Lois Luke as Lady Harriet; Roene Blgler as Nancy; Donald K. Nelson as Tristram Mich-kef Mich-kef ord; Max MacBeth as Lionel; Otto Fife and Fred Howard as Plunket; Alvln Tidlund as the sheriff; sher-iff; Kent Dover as the servant; Lenna Cox, Llllle Foster, Utahana Luke, Florian Matheson, Lillian Roblson and Eva Stuckl. as servants ser-vants and dancers. Miss Lund and Mr. Fife sang In Friday night's performance, with Miss Luke and Mr. Howard appearing Saturday night. The orchestration was very ably handled by the college orchestra, under the direction of Roy L. Hal-versen, Hal-versen, In spite of the fact Uiat the group had a very limited time In which to prepare for the presentation. |
