Show Local Citizens Sign Pledges In Defense Bond Sales Campaign i A total of 398 Cedar City people signed pledges Monday to purchase defense bonds and stamps, many of them signing to purchase bonds regularly each month, while others agreed to purchase a stipulated a-mount a-mount during the year. The pledges were signed during a campaign conducted con-ducted Monday evening by the Cedar Ced-ar City Defense Bond Committee, assisted by civic groups of the city. The Lions and Rotary Clubs, Business Bus-iness and Professional Women's Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Junior Cliamber of Com-nerco, Com-nerco, cooperated in making a house to house canvass to secure signatures on purchase pledges. A number of the workers had not reported re-ported last night, according to P. E. Anderson, chairman of the bond committee, but pledges rcturiied last night showed that Cedar City people have agreed to spend $2,075 each month for bonds and stamps while those who signed to make lump sum purchases during the year agreed to contribute $9,410, before the end of the year. The Lions club members lead in the number of pledges secured and the amount to be spent. They secured se-cured 212 pledges, for $1039 In monthly mon-thly purchases and $3021.25 In lump sum purchases. The other groups reported the following results last night: Rotary Club: 92 pledges, for $580.-20 $580.-20 monthly, and $2,295 In lump sums. Business and Professional Club: 66 pledges, $36425 monthly, $1,287.-50 $1,287.-50 lump sum. American Legion Auxiliary: 9 pledges, $20.50 monthly, $556.25 In lump sums. Junior Chamber of Commerce: 19 pledges, $70.50 monthly, $50.00 lump sum. Chairman Anderson expects that these amounts will be Increased materially when final reports are made. |
