Show School Board Approves Teacher Salary Increase The Board of Education of the Iron Comity School District at its meeting Monday approved a $50.00 increase in the basic pay of all teachers In the county, approved a tentative budget, reducing the tax levy for school purposes, and ordered or-dered contracts forwarded to all teachers approved for positions In the county next year. The basic pay salary increase the second such raise made In the past year, means that each teacher will receive $50.00 more this year that he did last, but will not change the scale of pay based on training and experience of the teacher. Th" Increase In pay was made because of the Increase in living cost during the past year. The tentative budget approved by the board places the tax levy for school purposes this year at 13 mills as compared to 14 mills assessed as-sessed last year. The levy provides 10 mills for school operation and 3 mills for debt service, to meet the payment of bonds Issued for the construction con-struction of buildings. The operation opera-tion levy is the same as it was last year, the 1 mill reduction being In the debt service levy. Contracts have been mailed to all teachers who are being offered positions posi-tions In the county next year, with the stipulation that contracts must be signed and returned by April 18. Other business transacted at the meeting included the following: Wilson Lunt, member of the board, was chosen as the school representative to make the acceptance accep-tance speech at the Elks Flag Pole dedication services Saturday night. The resignation of Orland Ward, coach of the Parowan high school, was accepted, but a successor was not named. Ward has enlisted in the physical education department of the United States Navy, and is now awaiting call to service. He will continue con-tinue with his school duties until the call Is received. John Weaver, librarian at the Cedar City Junior high school, also submitted his resignation, reporting report-ing that he had accepted a civil service assignment in Washington, D. C. His resignation was accepted, but It Is expected that he will not be forced to leave until the close of school. Approval was given for the senior students or the Cedar and Parowan high schools to partlcpate in a joint senior day at Zion National Park, Saturday, April 18. Senior students from the high schools of Kane, Iron and Washington Counties will participate. par-ticipate. The affair was initiated by the Kane County schools. Approval was also given the participation par-ticipation of Iron County students n the State Future Farmer convention con-vention at Logan next week. Iron County will be represented at the convention by Wendell Gardner of Cedar City and Kenneth Prothero of Paragonah. |
