The d-'O'-ion came after af-ter Claude Edwards and M. V. (Irames had conducted a discussion on an employment and industrial survey now being conducted throughout the state. Earl Urie w is appointed to represent the Lei'io.i in the survey. The shakers pointed out that the purpose of the survey is to uncertain uncer-tain what industries and f.iciliti.vs would be nva:lab!e for the making of defense material in case it became be-came necessary to do so. Mr. Edwards stated that if war is declared against Japan or any other country many of the local industries would stop entirely because of the lack of necessary materials, while others would be taken over for the manufacture of articles' necessary to the defense program. Already, he said, the plaster null and other small industries in southern Utah had closed their doors due to the lack of necessary materials to ca.--ry on. He also pointed or.: that many ot the young men of the communi'y are leaving Utah for California and other states where they can secure se-cure employment in the defease industries. Mr. Edwards declared that if such a practice is carried on indefinitely, the results would be disastrous to the state. In urging the Leglonaircs to join . the local group and attend meet- ! ings regularly, Past Commander Ellas Leigh read a letter recently received from the American Legion National Headquarters in Indiana in which it was stated that after this year only Leglonaircs who have been members of the organlzatlo i or taken anactilve part in the program, prog-ram, would be permitted to Join. It was pointed out that the Legion Is being asked to take over many very important matters of business pertaining to the national and local lo-cal defease programs and that tlv; support of every Legionaire is needed need-ed at this serious period in the Nation's Na-tion's history. |
