Show i CEDAB CITY High School News By LaDawn Riddle ! The second Lyceum wad held on Wednesday. It featured the Utah State 'Symphony Orchestra. In order or-der that the students might enjoy this more thoroughly, Information was given to them on Monday, Tuesday, Tues-day, and Wednesday In the Horn? Room. This Information dealt with j the composition of the numbers which the orchestra played. We studied some about the composers the fctyle of the music and other I things which gave us a background to better understand the music. The i Lyceum was an outstanding per-j per-j formance and we enjoyed it very i thoroughly. i I The basket-ball game at Milforl last Friday marked the beginning i of the basketball season. The boys , won this game by a 40-25 score. This j means that we are beginning the i basket-ball season the way we hoped hop-ed to. Tonight Panaca plays us here at Cedar for the second practice game of the season. Tomorrow night MUford will play us here. The student body gave a banquet ban-quet for the boys on the team and their mothers. This was to show them that we are proud of them and the work that they have done. Now that Thanksgiving is over, preparations for the Christmas holidays have begun. The Seminary Swing, which Is the outstandln3 event of the Seminary year, Is being planned. The Seminary Swing Is for all Seminary students and is always one of the nicest parties of the year. The girl's party, as well as other rarties by smaller groups, have been planned. We are getting ready for a grand holiday season. ' i The date for the school play hiu j been set. On December 17th it will ! be presented to the public. I have I watched some of the practices and j am convinced that they will have 1 ready for us an excellent perform-j perform-j ance when the time comes. MUs i Leigh is doing very well with this I group. When you have seen the dis- tress In the face of Henry, the dis-I dis-I belief and wonder of his mother, i the convincing smirk of the detec-l detec-l tlve, or any of the other expres-s expres-s slons of the characters In action, you will agree that it is an excel-1 excel-1 lent play. The boys In the shop, with Mr. Chatterley as their teacher, are l making the scenery for the play. They have done this In other years and we have always been pleased I with it. i i The Boys organization had a meeting last week in which Mr. Hugh Matheson of Parowan was I the guest speaker. Mr. Matheson j told the group early pioneer stories i and related the early methods of j hunting. Alma Matheson of Cedar showed the boys a collection of guns which dated back to 1800 and up to j the present. In this collection there were guns which had ! been used In the Revolutionary, Civil and Black Hawk wars. The boys enjoyed the talks and the dis-l dis-l play of guns very much. For their ' project this year the Boys' organl- zatlon is contemplating building a t letter for the school on one of the nearby hillsides. Mr. Bethers spon-I spon-I sors the Boys' organization and Is much appreciated for this leader-j leader-j ship and excellent work with the I group. Mus Eastows art class has prov-cu prov-cu io be one ot Uie most mieimaii una successful classes tnis year, work ot high standard is turned om and the students who take the cladi enjoy it very much. Various types of work are being done. Some students stud-ents are doing original creative painting where a fine feeling of color and design is being developed. Garden, fruit, flowers, circus, sports and other subjects have been worked out from memory and Imagination. Im-agination. Another group Is doing design and color and Is working in a more geometric or conventional convention-al spirit. The purpose here la also to develop a knowledge of fine color harmony and design. Some students stud-ents are working In yarn and others oth-ers needlecraft and are making table runners and other articles of practical use tor their homes. Some I of the boys have been making belts and other small articles In leather. iThe art room la now very colorful with paintings made by the students stud-ents which show the progress in the work. |
