Kmas Lighting ainid Activities Program Saturday evening, December 6, will mark the official opening of what Is expected to be the most gala Christmas Season in the history oi Cedar City, when men, women and children of this and surrounding communities gather on Main Street to hear a Christmas message from Mayor H. H. Lunt. see the hundreds hun-dreds of multi-colored Christmas lights turned on, and to welcome Santa Claus on his first visit. Extensive plans have been made by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, sponsors of the activities, and all is in readiness for the ceremonies cere-monies scheduled to usher in the Yule season. Saturday evening, commencing at 7 o'clock, short, appropriate ap-propriate ceremonies will be conducted con-ducted on the porch of the Eisca-lante Eisca-lante Hotel, with Mayor Lunt officiating. of-ficiating. Following a Christmas message by the Mayor, the new decorative de-corative lights will be turned on, afler which Santa will put In his appearance and distribute candy and nuts to the children attending the festivities. The program will bt broadcast over radio station KSUB. As a special attraction Saturday Satur-day night, merchants of the community com-munity have agreed to keep then places of business open until 9 p. in. and have Invited the public tc visit their stores after the ceremonies cere-monies and look over their excellent excel-lent assortment of Christmas goods. Each person visiting the stores at that time will be given chances on the prize drawing to be conducted December 24. A large number cf valuable prizes have been donatec by the various business houses and chances will be given to all customers cus-tomers visiting the Cedar City stores between now und the date of the drawing. Helping to keep the spirit oi Christmas uppermost in the thoughts nf everyone in the community, each noon hour and evening, Christmas carols and chime recordings will be played over a public address system sys-tem originating in the entrance oi the Parks Theatre. These recordings record-ings will be heurd throughout the business district. Main Street is rapidly taking on a very festive appearance with hundreds hun-dreds of multi-colored lights and other decorations being put up which should add to the spirit of the season. The decorations, which mark the beginning of a four year Christmas lighting program, arc being put up at a cost of between $800 and $900 and it Is expected that the initial decorations will be added to each vear. This year, a 13-foot, interior lighted, double-sided double-sided Greeting sign has been placed at either end of the business district, dis-trict, with huge Christinas trees. U be lighted in such a way that th:v will change red and green with the traffic signal, will be installed under each semaphore. The lamp posts are already beautifully decorated decor-ated with Christmas candle effects, and the regular streamer lights have been Increased by the addition addi-tion of several hundred more bulbs, and improved by draping from the sides of the buildings. A large, brilliantly lighted star with double streamers of lights leading to each side of the street, and hung between be-tween the Leigh building on the East and the C. S. A. building on the West, will complete the decorations. decor-ations. The rules of the contest are the same as in previous years in that the decorations must be completed and the lights ready to be turned on Monday evening, December 8, and that the lights must burn each evening until 10 o'clock up to and including January Jan-uary 1. A committee of townspeople will be chosen to select the prize winners and everyone in the community com-munity Is urged to participate.
